WE HAVE POSTPONED ORDERING SHIRTS
THINGS TO DECIDE WHEN YOU ORDER YOUR SHIRTS
Dear Stargazers & others reading this information:
I am hoping that celebrating our 10th Anniversary as a club with shirts having photos from the James Webb Space Telescope will be a success. Design-a-sign, the company in Pagosa that we are using, is sending the photos we have chosen to some specialists for their in-put on how the photo quality will be reproduced. They will select the best photos to transfer to shirts. That adds some confusion because there may be some last minute changes, but it is the best idea I have to insure the quality of our shirts.
Also note that all shirts have the photo of your choice on the back with the title of the photo above it & beneath the photo it says — James Webb Space Telescope 2022
On the front it says:
Top Line — San Juan Stargazers 10th Anniversary
medium size model of the James Webb Space Telescope
Bottom Line — James Webb Space Telescope 2022

Following are the pictures from the Webb Telescope. Some photos were voted on at our last meeting. Then a small committee of members helped make suggestions for additional photos released later.
If we find that 1 or 2 photos are not chosen very often for the shirts, we may need to eliminate them since each different photo used adds to the cost.
The team from Design-a-sign will have the final say in photos so there may be last minute changes. Prepare for a “back-up” choice for each shirt.
PHOTO 1: This is the most recent photo from the Webb of the Tarantula Nebula which is a stellar nursery located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a dwarf galaxy gravitationally bound to the Milky Way & is seen in the Southern Hemisphere.
Photo 2 is of Stephan’s Quintet. There are 5 galaxies, 4 are in an actual cluster & are interacting. One galaxy looks to be part of the group, but in fact is billions of miles away. When I went to Star Parties near Colorado Springs most people stayed up ALL NIGHT. As the dawn was approaching, it was time to look for Stephan’s Quintet. We all looked at it as the final deep sky object of the night or morning & then we went to our campers or tents & fell asleep, exhausted, but happy. I am sure that thousands of stargazers across the US have done the same thing.
Photo 3 is of The Cartwheel Galaxy with two small galaxies to the left is classified as a “Ring Galaxy” & is 500 million light-years away. It is the result of a high speed collision between a large spiral galaxy & a smaller galaxy no longer distinguishable. There also is a central black hole.
Photo 4 Is one of many photos of the Phantom Galaxy long known as M74. It is 32 million light-years from earth & is in the constellation Pices. It is called a “grand-design spiral” which means it has well defined spiral arms.
Describe the purpose of the image(opens in a new tab)
Photo 5 the Southern Ring Nebula is a binary system with 2 stars closely orbiting each other, the left star periodically ejecting gas & dust to create the nebula.
We are not sure that the Deep Field Images will copy well on a shirt. We may just take a part of one of these pictures. If you have an idea for the best area, please find a way to share it. Let me know what you think???
PHOTO 6: DEEP FIELD IMAGES EXPOSED FOR 12.5 HOURS
.Webb Deep Field Image We will only put a part of this on the shirt. IF YOU HELD A GRAIN OF SAND ON THE TIP OF YOUR FINGER AT ARM’S LENGTH, THAT IS THE PART OF THE UNIVERSE YOU ARE SEEING.
“ONE SPECK OF THE UNIVERSE”
